Hi, I’m Will and I’m just about a month into being Creative Content Specialist here at 43 Clicks North. I’m currently sitting in the office surrounded by vibrant, positive people (and an excitable dog) working on some really interesting projects. If you don’t want to read any further - it’s brilliant, and I feel lucky to work here.
But let’s rewind to a few months before I even started, and a conversation with Robyn at Graftons Recruitment in Hull. Robyn connected with me on LinkedIn after I changed my status to ‘Open to new opportunities and we scheduled a call. After a long chat about my skills and what I was looking for, she mentioned an opportunity that might be coming up at an agency in Hull, and might I be interested? Yes, I said. Yes I might be.
After an initial video conversation with Steve I was invited back for a proper interview with him and Alex. This took the form of a presentation on one of 43CN’s existing clients. After a lot of preparation I felt like it went pretty well - and by the end of the interview I knew that 43CN was a place that I really wanted to work.
Then came the wait. Steve had told me that they had a couple of other people to speak to, so I tried to put it out of my mind and concentrate on other things for a week or so. I’d like to say that when I was offered the role I was nonchalant and cool about it, but that would be a lie. I was absolutely buzzing.
Working my notice felt like it took an age, and it also feels like it was a lifetime ago. Then my start day finally rolled around.
As I keep telling everyone who’ll listen, I’ve been around the block a few times. I’ve had a few jobs, and the first day has been different at every one. My first day (and week, and month) at 43CN has definitely been one of the best.
On my first day Alex welcomed me into the office and showed me around (making sure to point out all the important things like where to get drinks from and where to lock up my bike). The next few days then consisted of meeting the team and learning about clients and how 43CN works. I found out a little bit about what everyone does and how it all fits together, and started to learn about what my role was going to entail.
I jumped into creating content pretty quickly, learning as I went how to use SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) techniques like keyword research in my planning. A big part of my role is to think about the content I create holistically, and how it can integrate with and support other elements of the agency - like SEO, PPC (Pay Per Click) and Digital PR - to ultimately increase revenue and visibility for clients. This wider thinking is a vital part of how content will support and help to drive 43CN moving forward.
It’s been fantastic to be able to spend some time getting to know the different areas of 43CN, and the lovely and talented people who work here. It’s given me the opportunity to understand better what is needed from creative content, and start putting into place plans and strategies that hopefully will help to shape the way we provide and report on content to clients in the future.
My first month has been a genuine joy. I have learnt a lot (and I’m very aware that I have a lot more to learn), but I’ve been productive too, with some great feedback both from the team and from clients. I’ve had great support to find my feet and understand what is needed from me, but I’ve also been given the freedom to explore the role and to develop my own ideas and plans.
I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to my new role at 43CN, and I’m really excited to see what the future holds. Here’s to the next month (and the next one, and the one after that…).
